GARDNER SHUGART MIDDLE SCHOOL : CRISIS WITH NEW PRINCIPAL I am a teacher at G. Gardner Shugart Middle School located at 2000 Callaway Street in Temple Hills, MD. We have a new principal this year and the staff is plotting to have her removed from her position. Her name is Mrs. Curtis Smalls. We are in a CRISIS SITUATION and need your help. She is causing our students to be confused (many students are attending school and have no schedule yet), she is violating our union contract in many ways, and she is very unprofessional. We have made multiple attempts to reason with her, but she is not willing to listen. One example of wrongdoing: She announced that if we have a FIGHT in our classroom, not to send the student to the office, but to "take care of it" ourselves, and threatened us with a bad evaluation if we write any student up on a discipline referral. There are many more issues here. Please contact our building representative, Mr. Neville Adams at 301-702-3950 for more information. Thank you very much. PLEASE HELP JEANNIE!

Hi. I watch your show on dctv ch.5. I several questions to ask you about fashion and hair. What is the lastest fashion for the summer? What is the lastest hair styles for the summer? And what stores can I shop at to buy theses fashions at a low price? For example, I like the clothes in Rainbow clothing store. And what is the time and date that the new show comes on. Thankyou.

LaShawn

With the upcoming change of season, I wanted to know the "must-haves" for Spring. I am intersted in totally revamping my everyday style (hair, clothes, make-up)and wanted to pick your brain for a new and sexy "me".

I was channel surfing when I came upon your fasion show. I loved the styles, with the exception of the summer furs from Illusion. The furs fall into the weird category, the Eboney Fashion Show has a few weird styles as well. Now for the constructive criticism from an artist and a contracting officer. In order to appreciate the styles, your models need a better runway. Your audience who were standing on the side, were more of a distraction than anything. The models would have been noticeable if the guest were completely out of the picture. One of your guest had on bold red and yellow in the white and gray room, he stood out like a sore thumb. The other guest were laughing and talking during the show. Please do not put your busty models in the haltertop styles; there was too much sagging going on. Leave the halter tops for the smaller models or have the larger busted women to find an appropriate bra. I am a 38C myself, and I am fortunate that my breast do not have sag like those models and that's after having two childern at 30 something. Overall both men and women have nice shapes. I was glad to see that you had models from the Washington area. It is good to see that the models had confidence and self esteem, with the exception of the one gentleman who was too cute to walk, leave that cupid doll on the shelf next time. (Smile) It was nice to see that you chose styles that flatter the African American Woman's buttock. We would never see that on a Paris runway. Although I would caution the girl on the amount of butt emphasizing they display, we don't want them to come off as "huchies", that would distract us from looking at the outfit they have on. Of course I am jealous, I am a size 11, alright size 12, ironing board. I am going to have to tune in to the radio station. Feel free to contact me regarding my comments. When I viewed the fashion show, I looked at your show through artistic eyes. I thought it was great of you to ask for comments. Good Luck! Viola Underdue-Mitchell

My hair is out of control. I've tried different gels and mousses, but I don't like the wet-helmet look that they give me. What do you suggest?

What's up Ms. J Renay? I watch your show all the time and I do enjoy it. Out of all the times I've watched your show I've never heard you talk about "Wigs". I don't know if you've ever worn a wig before just for fun or whatever but if you can, can you tell me a proper way to maintain a wig as far as grooming a wig or detangling a wig. Anything of that nature will help me out a whole lot. Thanx

Hello... I just finished watching your show on DCTV and I am bursting...your show is exactly what a 30 something black urban professional single mother needs. Your style is flawless and your show is off the hook...I caught the episode with the full-figured models and the stylist (?) from hot papillion and the accessory connection (?) (I was loving that girl's hair too--the accessory girl...can you tell me who does her hair??) Do you offer makeover assistance for viewers?? I am desperately in need of a makeover...hair, makeup, and clothes....I know that style is mostly about attitude...but I'm having a hard time mustering up the attitude when my appearance is frumpy...I'd love some professional guidance on how to unleash the inner diva living within... and I think that you can help. ...I think that would be a nice feature of your show to snatch people off the street and turn them from "frumpy to fabulous"... I can tell that you really want to help the fashion struggling people in the world....and I'd like to be your next subject.... So can you help me ??? PLEASE !!!

I would like to know what kind of tops can I wear for the various seasons, especially during the summer if your upper body is small.

I'm in need of a wardrobe make over desperately and if you can't help me, I would certainly appreciate it if you could direct me to someone who could. I'm a 35 year old woman that owns her own business (PR and marketing) and I want to have a fresh, contemporary look on a budget without trying to look 21 again. More importantly, I want to know how to develop an eye for what looks good on me and generally maintain through out the seasons. I want to get an update on the best places to shop for accessories, business attire or shoes. My current status? I usually shop for everyday work clothes at places like Frugal Fannies. Descent prices and a variety to choose from. They are lite on accessories though and they are behind a season. I wear a 9 1/2 narrow so I get my shoes from Nostrum's. I don't have pierced ears because I scar so ear rings have always been a problem. I have a few cute pieces, but don't have a lot to go with them so I don't wear them much. HELP!!! Do you do private consultations? Holla if you hear me!!!

Hey what's up J, I caught your show for the first time today as I was flipping though the channels. I must tell you I love it. The only thing I have a small problem with is that you did not include any mens fashion advice. That seems to be the norm with a lot of the fashion shows tout there they always forget about the men. You know, we like to look fly too and in DC there are a lot of fashion consious men. Let me tell ya a little about me and why i am writing i am a 22 year old new college student. After 4 years of the army where I had to wear nothing but uniforms I worked as an internal medicine department manager in Northern Va. I decided that I wanted to pursue my degree so I resigned to enroll in college fulltime. The problem is I went from the uniforms (military) to suits, shirts and ties (department manager) to college hence, my problem. I need help on the 2001 street wear/casual fall fashions. I am talking about everything the shoes, hair, clothing, the entire works. Some time in the near future would you please do a show on fall fashions or any fashions for men. Now don't get me wrong I love my sista's and and I love them even more when they are diva's but lets not forget about our divo's out there. If you could, would you please let me know when this episode (if you decide to do it) would be airing because I am normally at work during that time so i could tape it. Thanks for the time and consideration you took to read my feed back.

I am a 34 year old professional and am looking to revamp my entire appearance. The professionals featured on your show hit a lot of important topics that I consider to be standard for myself. I just need help in creating a comfortable, yet "new" me. Thanks for your help.

Ms. Renay: I recently graduated from Spelman College with a BA in English. Though my internships were in marketing, and my work experience has mostly been in retail (three years at Foot Locker), my true desire is to work in fashion. What would you suggest I do, as a person with no fashion experience, to get into the field?

Needing Some Advice

hey J. Renay, i saw your show yesterday. was that a repeat? anyway, i saw the entire show this time. you got it going on sista. yes you are a FINE black woman. smiles. yes, i like the way certain clothes look on woman also, especially if it's not over done. i think a woman can be sexy and classy at the same time, without trying too hard. I personally believe a woman can wear tight clothing and still be elegant at the same time. that is very attractive. i liked your style. but sometimes when i see woman over do it, it becomes too obvious and such a turn off to me. as far as the guys.......well the S curl is played out. i never had an S curl.....or Jerry curl.......who came up with the name Jerry Curl any way? who the heck is Jerry? smiles. later J gWASH

Hey J, What are the fashion must haves for the season?

I have a problem deciding what colors look good on me. Are there any safe colors that look good on a brown skin man?

Bill Parker <wparker@deans.umd.edu>
Bowie, MD,

Hey J. Renay, I'm 5'8" -- too tall for regular clothes but too short for tall gal clothes. Any suggestions for what kinds of clothes I should look for so that I don't have to get lengthening or shortening alterations? P.S. My body is pear-shaped, if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Oops...I'm sorry -- you wanted to avoid BLACK!! Okay, opt for camel colors or if those don't work for you --chocolate browns, or blue are other fashionable alternatives... Jaye Renay

J. Renay

Fashion: My recommendations are always keep it simple, simple, simple. Wear basic black if you really want to keep it safe however if you want to jazz it up a bit...put a bustier under your suit jacket. Lace is always a sexy peek-a-boo fabric appearing from under a suit jacket. Add color -- blue reds, or shirts with frills/ruffles are savvy for this season. Jaye

My co-worker is having a birthday celebration after work on friday and since friday is our dress down day, everyone usual wear casual attire. What would you recommend other than black. How can a causal outfit be transformed into a out on the town outfit.
