I am disappointed that C. Miles and Olivia Fox have been dismissed by Radio One. I love Radio talk shows and C. Miles was my favorite before he was dismissed. So much in fact that although I could not listen to his station here in NC, my sister living in Baltimore taped the programs for me and mailed them to me when he was on the radio. Then there was Olivia Fox, who made me laugh with her wit and sharpness. She was an intelligent speaker and I just enjoyed both of them. To C. Miles whom I have learned since then has been recovering from an illness, I wish you the best and hope that you are recovering well and that I will be waiting for you to return either to radio or on line, and Olivia Fox, hang in there, I will be waiting for you too. C. Miles and Olivia Fox were highly intelligent hosts and I have laughed and enjoyed their comments and their program so much. As long as these two from Radio One have something to say, I will be listening. I sincerely hope that the doors that will open for them now will be a bigger and better door. I do not claim to have a clue about the situations surrounding their dismissals, but I just want them to know that I appreciate having been able to listen to them and that I enjoyed them very much, and that I will be waiting to hear from them once again. Wuz up? Anyone hear that new Brown Sugar cd, it be straight off the hook. They be some bomb tracks on it, including one from my man Mos Def and that Nubian princess Erykah Badu. All the beats are phat. Its hard to go wrong when u got Blackilicous, The Roots, and Angie Stone on the same album. If u wanna take a listen, hit up the mca records website, they got some links. Holla back y’all. Peace.

I like Rob Redding's show because he encourages his listeners to become independent thinkers. I think it is OK for African Americans to think differently. We are not all the same. Therefore, we will have differing opinions from time to time. He encourages people to read and analyze information for themselves; not just rely on the media to choose an opinion for them. He has a web site that has links to all major news outlets across the US. You should check it out at www.reddingnewsreview.com.

Coming soon to the world wide web...the nation's first night time black soap opera, "Thr Raven". The first pilot episode was produced in 1983 and was chosen by the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) to be shown at the first annual minority television producer's exhibiton held in Las Vegas in 1984. The second one hour pilot episode was shot in 1990 on 16mm film and was chosen by the (then) ABC affiliate, WJZ-TV in Baltimore, to air on January 12, 1991. The pilot episode aired up against the James Brown special, "The man, the myth and the music". "The Raven" drew a 4 rating with a 10% share of the market, James Brown drew a 4 rating with an 11% share of the market. Surprisingly, "The Raven" beat out "Saturday Night Live" in some white demographics. Proving that a black soap opera was a viable show idea with surprisingly cross over appeal. But that was over 11 years ago. Is America really ready for a black, nightime drama series on prime time network television? Please give me your feedback on this very touchy subject. Stay tuned for the Url to the Black Arts & Entertainment Cyber Television website. And listen out for future interviews on the launch of this unique black entertainment website on WOL 1450AM

New York, NY,

I've listened to C. Miles and the other talk show hosts on WAOK in Atlanta and they are all terrible. The topics are not well researched, they cannot handle callers who disagree with them, and they apparently need a producer who knows how to line up show guests. The station, which is owned by white people, has a weak signal and no community involvement. Atlanta needs a good Black talk station but, so far, WAOK is not the answer.

I'm going to see the new movie "Ali" today. From what I've heard from critics and people who have seen it already, I can't wait. I'm happy Will Smith took this role, because he will show younger people what Ali was all about. Mike Tyson can't hold Ali's jock strap!!

Have you'll checked out the black entertainment talk show on Sundays? It comes on around noon and the host (Catt) has African American celebrities on every week. It's on WOL and XM's The Power 169. Her show gets pretty out of control but with the way WOL is headed, maybe that's just what they need.

Did you hear that Michele did change the name of her show from "Matters of the Heart" to "Can you Relate". She is now apart of the new XM Cable radio network along with WOL/WOLB. I think she will be able to do more exciting topics. Check it out this Sunday. Also, she will be feature in "Rollingout Urban Style weekly". Her eyes are as pretty as her voice! Good luck! P.S. I still like the name "Matters of the Heart" better! :-) Kevin

Full figured? You mean fat women! Big fat women! There's a lot of them in D.C., that's for sure. Waddling down the street carrying their bags of lunch, with big smiles on their faces, contemplating grease running down the sides of their mouths with messy napkins in tow. I guess they have a pitutiary gland epidemic in D.C.!!, either that or they hoof and mouth has a new meaning.

Today in modern society it seems as though dark-skinned blacks are portayed unfairly in today's entertainment industry vs.lightskinned blacks. In muic videos and in magazines the only thing you see that modifies our black beauty is light-skinned females with long hair. I just think it's unfair because you hardly get to view the beauty of dark-skinned blacks and if you do they are vrey odd looking (sorry model Alek). I consider myself a very attractive dark-skinned African-American sister yet my beauty is not displayed as much as the light-skinned black females. And it's not only in the industry,it's in everyday society. I can recall numerous of times where i was complemented for being attractive to be a dark-skinned female. what?! wait, hold up does this suppose to be a complement!? I'm not racist,or prejudice to my sisters nor my brothers but how can we overcome if we keep seperating ourselves. we all need to WAKE UP!!!!

*****The Prostitution Fashion Look Is In For 2001****** Just when I had finally gotten over last years Grammys dress with Jenifer Lopez along comes Toni Braxton at this years Grammy Awards. I have never met Toni Braxton and probally never will but thanks to TV and the Internet we can all see our entertainers up close. But what puzzles me is the manner in which (some) black women have chose to take off all of their clothes all in the name of entertainment. I know I’m old school and proud of it, but my grandmother taught me what BUCK NAKED is and I know it when I see it. Toni Braxton was BUCK NAKED. First of all she is a very attractive woman and has talent to back it up. So, she really has no need to take off her clothes for America. The love of money will make you do some strange things. Life Is What You Make It, Darlin' .Looking for a good book to cozy up with? Check out Life Is What You Make It, Darlin' by Marlene Taylor. Available in bookstores everywhere. Read what the author has to say: It came as a pleasant surprise when I read the first comments of one book reviewer who said; "Love scenes are Taylor's specialty". This was good, especially since my goal in writing this book was to give women a mental coffee-break by providing a light-hearted, erotic, fictional, love story. I started the Life Is What You Make It, Darlin' series in hopes of giving a gentle wake-up call to people, African-American couples in particular; regarding the importance of maintaining soulful, loving, intimate relationships. Knowing what you want out of life is the first step toward getting it. But, keeping relationships on the straight and narrow, keeping your eye on the sparrow, taking the road less traveled; is not an easy task. In this age of no-fault divorce, where couples can split in less time than it takes to get from their child's graduation in June to the first day of school in September, means that individuals must take it upon themselves to stop and think, to do a little soul searching. I learned this from my own hard-won lesson. When I was married, I was firmly grounded in the belief that it would last; that come what may, my husband and I would always be together, that we'd always, no matter what, work things out. Well…that didn't happen; mainly because we were both moving at the speed of thought rather than at the speed of soulful, intuitive feeling. Because of this, we let go of an eleven-year marriage without much discussion, without reaching closure. The lack of which has caused a nagging, hollow ache in my heart for years. While the novel, Life Is What You Make It, Darlin', can be seen as a metaphor to people looking for answers to a better relationship, it is also meant to be a funny, easy-going means to relaxation. The latter term being one of the most important aspects in any relationship. I certainly hope this book does much to help spread the joy of sensual, loving relationships wherein people realize that life is exactly what you make it. This is what I hope for all my readers. The best of luck and keep love in your heart! Marlene Copies of Life Is What You Make It, Darlin' ( ISBN 0-9677679-0-3 ) are available at local bookstores and on the Internet at Cushcity.com, BarnesandNoble.com and Amazon.com to name a few. Or order from 800-345-6665.

Today’s Washington Post (February 20, 2001) has an article on Reality TV Broadcast that talks about the BBG (Bad Black Guy) Stereotypes as they are presented on these reality shows. (i.e., Survivor, Big Brother, The Real World). These shows have become popular with the TV audience and are making big dollars for the networks. The contestants are made up of a wide range of participants with a variety of character flaws. However the jerk, or villain on most of these shows is seems is always portrayed as a BBG. That should come as no surprise. The writers of many of these shows are young Ivy league educated white kids who’s only experience with most black folk was when they would see them at the mall or standing behind the counters of a McDonalds or in a BET video. So, why should it come as a surprise to anyone once these young writers and producers get a job with the networks and have the power to producer programs and make changes. I really don’t see a reason to get upset with the TV network for portraying black men as buffoons . Why! Because we give them enough material on a day to day basis. Solution: DON’T WATCH THE TV SHOW AND DON’T SUPPORT THE SPONSORS..turn the TV OFF.What do you think? radiodiary@aol.com
